Position Summary Under the supervision of the Business Office Manager: Review, interprets and assigns diagnostic and surgical procedure codes based on medical records according to correct coding principles. Identifies unbundled and bundled procedures according to current CMS and NCCI rules. Applies correct modifiers to procedure codes in accordance with CPT guidelines. Clarifies discrepancies between documentation and code selection. Meet deadlines to expedite billing process. Meets productivity and quality standards. Minimum Qualifications Education: CPC or CPC-H certification required. College courses in business or medical field desired. Experience: Minimum of one year coding experience or 2 years related experience. Billing and collections processes in a physician office or medical clinic desired. Experience in general/medical office procedures and in dealing with the public. Extensive background and experience with CPT and ICD-9 coding guidelines. Understanding of human anatomy and physiology, attained through related education and experience in disease processes and medical terminology. Other Requirements: Demonstrated knowledge of accurate application of current ICD-9-CM and CPT coding principles. Analytical ability sufficient to accurately abstract, code and interpret data from diverse sources. Familiarity with the use and operation of CRT/PC system to retrieve computerized data and utilize PC-based encoding software management system. Have good organizational and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work at a fast and steady pace, often with repetitive tasks. Superior phone skills and pleasant, professional interactions with patients and insurance companies required.
