Overview
The vision was clear right from the beginning. The goals were altruistic in nature, unprecedented in scope. A group of special doctors got together and decided that there should be a place that brings together a unique, diversified team of board certified medical staff and healthcare professionals all in one locale. Thus, the Florida Spine Institute was born in 1990 with the notion that something needed to be done about the amount of people who were suffering needlessly with chronic back and neck pain. Conditions and disorders of the spine could in fact be treated effectively with a comprehensive, caring approach.
The total needs of the patient can be met at one facility. In order to achieve this ambitious goal, it would require a unique perspective that was clearly ahead of its’ time. In this area, no one had ever tried anything like this. The idea was to put every medical discipline together on one campus so that patients could receive the kind of thorough care needed to tackle all problems, big or small. Sometimes, it requires a team of doctors. If a patient could get conservative care first, then perhaps surgery would not be needed. If surgery is indicated, then make sure you have the best of the best.
So, the Florida Spine Institute philosophy was born. Start by doing something different, actually spending time with your patients. By asking many questions and listening to the patients, Florida Spine Institute’s doctors can find the causes of the pain. That’s half the battle and then a plan of attack can be properly developed. If you begin with the most conservative treatments possible, you can slowly work your way up the “ladder” until the patient can see viable, long-term relief. It is this patient centric thought process that has put Florida Spine Institute at the forefront of spine care in the world today.
The keys to this success are the medical professionals at the Florida Spine Institute. The doctors are cutting edge, leading the way in the evolution of treatment. They are also good people that really care. And, they only hire people to work here that feel the same way. The mantra is to treat each patient like they were a member of our family. Never, ever give up and try everything in a clear, concise pattern until a solution is found. You sometimes need to be all things to a patient: diagnostician, clinician and even an innovator. The doctors here at FSI do a superb job of managing their patients because they are talented, but also because they are kind and compassionate.
There is an art to the science of medicine, a creative side if you will and without it, you cannot possibly treat conditions of the spine. Anything can happen; the impossible is possible when it concerns the human body. With all of the resources available to patients here at FSI, it is no wonder that they have helped tens of thousands of people get out of pain and resume a normal life. The team approach, along with the ability to communicate with their patients is just a few of the many reasons they are able to do such a great job for so many people.
It continues to this day. New patients come streaming in to FSI from all over the world. A lot of people resist getting help because they are unaware that a place like FSI exists. They are used to the assembly line, rapid-fire approach to medicine that is far too prevalent today. Well, a place like FSI does in fact exist and it is here for you. FSI vows to continue with the kind of honest and complete treatment that you deserve until no one is suffering anymore.
